Recent Sightings:

  • Bear spotted at about 11:30pm 11/30/09 in the Mountain Shadows Complex by Unit 128 garbage bin.  We tried to scare it off with our car and bright lights but it was determined to go back to the trash it had removed.  No tag visible.
  • 1535 Debra Lane at 3.30pm - large black bear on our deck "hanging out" next to the hot tub. Then sat on fence for a while before disappearing into the estate next door.Had white tag in ear. Enjoying the winter sunshine!
  • Follow up to bear siting just reported. Date was 28th Nov. He also appeared to have spent the night under our house, as the fencing had been broken through.
  • Thursday, November 25 - 773 Joyce Lane - A big Black Bear was seen in our Backyard on Thanksgiving day Thursday 11/25 @ 4:40pm. He stayed around for few minutes, went inside our pond, and then slowly moved away.
  • November 22 - Bear broke into the garage while we were out of town.  Rummaged through 3 trash cans (mostly recycle items)  found most of the trash in the front yard upon returning from vacation.  Dorcey Drive.

  • November 16 - 1:30 am -. Large bear approx 600 lbs, broke garage door trying to get in. Extensive damage to 2 garage doors.
  • A bear broke into the garages of two houses on Dorcey Dr at Garen at 12:30am on 10-20-09.  The bear ate dry dog food at one house, though did not enter the other garage.
    Also on Dorcey, two other houses show signs of recent bear activity. On upper Dorcey a garage door is broken, and on lower Dorcey a camper door is bent open.
  • Sunday, October 18 ~ 3pm - I observed a bear in the woods off my back patio from the Pointe Condo Bldg within the Third Creek Community.  The black bear appear about 200 lbs and quickly moved away when it heard voices from my patio.  There also appears to be a large quantiy of bear scat in the common grassy area in the Third Creek commuinity next to the dumpsters.  Bear sightings have been very common in this location throughtout the summer.
  • Large black bear approx. 500 lbs. sighted on Oct 14th at 14:40 on the west loop of Pine Cone Circle just south of Lakeshore Drive.
  • Friday, October 9 at 837 Southwood Blvd #15 - Around a little after midnight, a bear was seen walking up my condos back parking lot towards the recycling bin and garbage.  It was a big bear and healthy looking.  I was coming out of my car and took a couple of steps away from my car when I saw the bear.  The bear saw me and kept on walking up towards the garbage/recycling bin.  I got back in my car and drove around the block.  When I came back the bear was no where to be found.
  • Wednesday, October 7th between 12am and 6am  a bear attempted to get into the enclosure at Royal Pines.  820 Oriole Way.  There is damage to the door and it may be sprung.  One bag of trash was pulled out through the opening made by forcing the door, but overall the structure held.
  • On Oct. 7th at about 8pm, a brown bear was sighted eating trash in open space near the intersection of Geraldine and Jennifer.  The prior week, trash was left out on the street overnight at Jennifer and Susan by a new resident and was raided by an animal (probably a bear).
  • Saturday, September 5 - I was woken up in the middle of the night by two very loud pounding noises that vibrated our house.  In the morning, we found muddy, large pawprints that started at the top of our garage door and slid down, gouging out the wood door. We did not have any trash in the garage, but did have recycles.  We think this is the second time a bear has tried to get into our garage.  The previous occurrence was last year.
  • Thursday, Sept. 3, at 11:15 a.m.- Large bear strolled across yard at 583 Rockrose Ct., crossed Knotty Pine and continued down the hill through neighbor's yard.Friday, August 21 – 2am: Bear aggressively trying to break in to garage at 815 Ellen Court. Was very difficult to scare bear away, though he eventually left the property without breaking in.
  • Thursday, August 20, 11:30pm - Spotted large brown bear near doorway of #54, Crystal Shores West condos at 525 Lakeshore Blvd.
  • Monday, August 17  - 10:15 am  - A very large bear roaming  from creek across Pinion Pine and Rosewood Circle  and then through a chain link fence in Incline Creek Estates.
  • Saturday, August 15th - a 250+lb bear with a yellow tag on his right ear walked from Lakeshore Blvd down the middle of Vivian Lane into my yard at 1560 Vivian Saturday afternoon at 6:28pm. I went outside and chased confronted the bear and it moved east through my neighbor's yard to Pine Cone Circle.
  • Wednesday, August 12 - A tagged bear walked through the backyard at 346 Winding Way around 8 pm.  I saw it running across the street on the way to work this morning. 
  • Monday, August 10 - A large bear was at Preston Park around 7pm.  It was at the garbage cans and then climbed on the slide.
  • Tuesday, August 4 - 2:00am a large bear with an ear tag was trying to get into trash enclosure on outside wall of residence on Knotty Pine Dr.
  • Saturday, August 1 at 10:15 am - Large bear walking on upper end of Titlist Dr.
  • August 1 - 11:30pm - Young bear climbing the tree to my upper deck located Country Club Dr and Village. I shouted and he climbed down the tree and ran into the woods.
  • Tuesday, July 28 around 7:30 - Spotted bear just past Mays on Lakeshore Drive. Climbed fence at Burnt Cedar beach and rumaged through trash cans at snack bar and pool area
  • July 28 at 8:15pm - Large bear on Lakeshore and Mays - Was on front lawn and just mosied along on to Lakeshore Dr.
  • Monday, July 27 - 12am - medium sized bear seen rummaging through nearby trash bins at 123 Juanita
  • Sunday, July 26 - Small bear-lg dog size crossing through neighbors yard around noon at Jennifer and Fay St.
  • Saturday, July 25 - Bear approx 200lbs in garage around 3:00pm at 960 Fourth Green Drive. Scared off by owner with a broom. Came back 3 times for garbage.
  • Thursday, July 23 – 10:30pm - black bear approximately 250 pounds was seen near Public Works building at 1220 Sweetwater Road
  • Tuesday, July 21 - juvenile bear in my neighbor's trash at 929 Harold
  • July 21 - Bear destroyed pear tree  in backward at 324 Winding Way, time unknown(at night) did same last year
  • Sunday, July 19 - at 2pm walked from the house across from 105 Jobs Peak and into the yard next door. Proceeded through the backyard toward Robert Ave
  • Friday, July 17 & July 21 - Two Bear break-in's into the garage of unit 4, 950 Dana Crt, IV.  Early morning of Friday July 17th and again same garage early morning of July 21st. Garbage bags rumaged, both times.
  • Thursday, July 16  - evening - appx. 200 pound bear in the vacant lot next to 1081 Lucerne Way
  • July 16 - 9pm - Bear seen in dumpster outside of T's/ Movie Theater after evening show, dumpster was not locked and many people were near the dumpster unaware a bear was having a snack that close to them.
  • Tuesday, July 14 - a bear broke into a garage on Pelton Lane between 11:00 pm to midnight.  A garbage can with human food was placed just outside the garage door that afternoon.  The house was vacant at the time of the break-in.
  • Sunday, July 12 at 8:00 am - Bear about 300 lbs (adult) across from 322 Winding Way, most likely returning from Preston Park trash, proceeding up hill towards church on Kelly and Highway 28
  • Monday, July 13th approx 2:00 am - large bear climbing a tree just behind the house at 753 Mildes Dr..  The bear was startled by the light I turned on and proceeded down the hill towards more homes.
  • Friday, July 10 at 6-7 a.m. a bear was wandering in backyard of 882 Ophir Peak. A neighbor thinks it might be living in large boulders in this yard.  Also seen by a resident near 127 Rubicon Peak about the same time today.  The previous day, three bears were seen in a yard on Freels Peak which abuts 127 Rubicon.
  • Wednesday, July 8 at 7:25 pm - medium/large bear with tag walking on upper end of Titlist Dr.
  • Tuesday, July 7 - Yearling black bear wandering down Sawmill Road at 6 :45am -.Medium size, probably last year’s cub, black coat and a white spot under the chin  It took off towards Tramway when dogs barked.
  • July 6th 8:30 pm - medium-sized bear crossing the driving range on Fairway Blvd. It was heading west toward the building just below the short-game practice area.Saturday, July 4: Multiple sightings of smaller, ear tagged bear on southern Lakeshore Drive.  Sherrif monitored movements, kept away from crowd.
  • July 2 - 3: Bear broke into garage on Chipmunk Dr on July 2 and returned the next night as well.
  • Wednesday, July 1 - 12:30am 580 Putter Court - 3 Bears spotted, Two large, one small.
    No problems.
  • July 1st - 8:45 am Northwood and Willow.  Medium size juvenile going through trash.  Was eating on a porch less than 3 feet from an open screen door with a cat sitting behind the screen.  Was more interested in the trash. 
  • July 1st - Medium sized black bear sited at 8:35pm at 712 James Lane.  bear went around the backyard towards garage, and hung out for awhile before moving on down the street. 
  • July 1st at 12:30am - Two large and one small at 580 Putter Court. No problems.
  • Monday, June 29 at 9:30 am - bear sited coming out of woods onto road from creek area on Ski Way between Big Water Grill and Diamond Peak's lower parking lot.  The bear had a red tag on right ear.
  • Tuesday, June 30  6:30 pm Large bear wandering down Tiltist Dr.
    Checking things out but not causing problems. People on our street are pretty good with trash.
  • Thursday, June 25 - 812 Freeks Peak - two bears mating in our back yard
  • June 23 - 549 Lakeshore Blvd. - west end of Lakeshore: Two yearlings 9pm in the evening of June 21,22,23 with a third bigger and blacker bear in the evening.
  • Tuesday, June 17 - 2 bears on Knotty Pine Drive at 6am; 1 bear an hour later in same location
  • Friday, June 18 - Spencer Ave at  Len; a bear dragged off a bear resistant trash container, chewed on it, could not get at the garbage, then gave up, left can at the end of the driveway.
  • Wednesday, June 17 -  8 am, young bear on Spencer Drive at Len Way was scoping out trashcans on service day. Chased off back to First Creek by a dog and resident
  • Tuesday, June 16 at 9PM - 2 bears in the trash at Mountain Shadows
  • Friday, June 12 at 7am – large adult at Admin building
  • Thursday June 11, around noon. Bear rummaging through trash on Village Blvd. between College Drive and Country Club Drive.
  • On both Mon-June 8th and Tue-June 9th my daughter-in-law spotted a mature Black Bear in the backyard garden of our vacation home located at 773 Mays Boulevard between the hours of 7:00 and 8:00 am
  • Sunday, June 7 -  young adult seen in dumpster behind Ace Hardware
  • Friday, June 5 – yearling bear eating at birdfeeder – Mountain Shadows, near Unit 108
  • Friday, June 5 – yearling bear scouting trash cans - Jennifer St.
